Born in Queens, New York.  Charles Castronovo  was a resident artist with Los Angeles Opera before joining the Metropolitan Opera's Young Artists Development Program in 1999.  

A graduate of Cal State Fullerton, Castronovo sang ten main stage roles with L.A. Opera over two seasons.

 He made his Metropolitan Opera debut on opening night of the 1999-2000 Season as Beppe in Pagliacci with Plácido Domingo singing Canio. Summer of 2000, he recorded the role of Beppe in Pagliacci for Decca with Jose Cura in the role of Canio.

 In 2000, Castronovo recorded I Pagliacci with conductor Riccardo Chailly on the Decca label. He then sang with the New York Philharmonic as Sam in excerpts from Weill's Street Scene.

Mr. Castronovo made his European debut during the spring of 1999 as a soloist in Rossini’s Stabat Mater with Das Neue Orchestra of Cologne, and recorded the same work for the Opus 111 label. With San Francisco Opera Center’s Merola Opera Program, he sang Tamino in Die Zauberflöte.

As a past Resident Artist of the Los Angeles Opera, Mr. Castronovo appeared as Baron Rouvel in Fedora, Parpignol in La bohème, Remendado in Carmen, Reverend Perris in The Crucible, and Don Basilio in Le nozze di Figaro. 

Fall of 2000 he will  debut with Boston Lyrics Opera  as Don Ottavio in Don Giovanni.
